After years of making TV for women to watch, Lifetime is making a move to put more women behind the TV screen as writers and directors. Broad Focus is a new iniative that will give female creatives the chance to write, direct and get behind a camera. The best and up-and-coming creative talent will be focus on developing content that speaks to the female experience. It will also raise awareness in the industry about the underappreciated talent out there.
One of the first moves by Broad Focus is entering into a partnership with Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival. The Festival showcases female and diverse filmmakers and guarantees distribution to winning films, as the exclusive cable partner Lifetime will air winning films and even develop one of the scripts from the writing competition.
